Food, culture & history

Your experience and learning will be enriched through observation of traditional Vietnamese food preparation and cooking techniques and participation in cooking demonstrations and lessons. As well as learning about authentic cuisine, you will discover stunning and varied landscapes and become fully immersed in Vietnamese culture.

You will take part in social justice activities, providing a positive contribution to the people and places of Vietnam.

Trip Itinerary

DAY ONE

Depart Sydney and arrive into Hanoi late evening. You will be met by your tour guide at the airport and transferred to accommodation in Hanoi.

DAY TWO

Orientation tour of the capital followed by lunch at KOTO - a foundation and social enterprise for at-risk youth. Take an afternoon sightseeing by cyclo, including the Temple of Literature and Hanoi History Museum, a visit to the Old Quarter to taste local street food followed by a Northern Vietnamese dinner.

DAY THREE

Morning visit to Long Bien Market ahead of an overnight traditional cruise in Halong Bay. You’ll visit the Bay of the Descending Dragon, viewing caves, rock formations, beaches and floating villages. There will be an authentic cooking demonstration and dinner on board.

DAY FOUR

Morning Tai Chi class and relaxation time as you sail through 2000 beautiful islets. Disembark and transfer back to Hanoi with a stop in Yen Duc Village, where you will interact with locals and contribute to a sustainable agricultural economy. Dinner and Water Puppetry performance ahead of a flight to Da Nang and transfer to Hoi An.

DAY FIVE

Take a morning walk through the colourful food markets of Hoi An, visit Tra Que herb village to partake in gardening and enjoy a cooking lesson with a local family. In the afternoon you will spend time at an NGO for disadvantaged children before returning to Hoi An for a walking tour of the village and group dinner.

DAY SIX

Take a flight to Ho Chi Minh and transfer to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels for an educational tour on the history of this area. In the evening you will have another delicious group dinner in Ho Chi Minh.

DAY SEVEN

Visit the bustling central market to discover Southern Vietnamese ingredients, take an interactive cooking class and make your own lunch. Spend the afternoon sightseeing in the city, visit a local language class and cultural exchange before a special dining in the dark experience at NOIR - a business set up to provide training and stable employment to the visually impaired.

DAY EIGHT

Visit Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta to see the biggest coconut orchards in Vietnam, take a motor boat excursion on the Mekong Delta and optional bike ride to local farms. Then you will visit a local family-run business for a traditional lunch before returning to Ho Chi Minh for a farewell dinner.

DAY NINE

Transfer back to airport for your international flight back to Sydney.
