Bring Biology to life on this New Zealand Tour. The South Island hosts the purest natural landscapes you’ll ever experience. The beauty of the South Island is in the diversity of its scenery.

Starting in Christchurch, students will learn about restoration efforts in the Red Zone before venturing into the iconic Hanmer Springs. Travel onwards to the West Coast and experience the untamed natural wilderness of rivers and rainforests, glaciers and geological treasures.

This itinerary presents unbeatable outdoor classroom opportunities. Activities, tours and talks will embed learning and truly captivate students. This will be a trip of a lifetime! 

DAY 1

Depart Sydney and fly into Christchurch. On arrival meet your Haka tour guide, transfer and check in to your accommodation. Enjoy an orientation tour of the city led by your guide followed by Greening the Red Zone Tour. This initiative aims to be a core influence on the ecological restoration of indigenous habitats that were lost during the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.

DAY 2: CHRISTCHURCH - HANMER SPRINGS

Travel to Hanmer Springs and experience an unforgettable white water rafting adventure. Later today we’ll head to the world-class thermal pools to soak in the tranquility and natural beauty.

DAY 3: HANMER SPRINGS - PUNAKAIKI

Travel west across to Punakaiki stopping en route at Westport. Here we’ll visit Cape Foulwind which is a spectacular headland that has seal breeding colonies and panoramic views.

DAY 4: PUNAKAIKI

Travel to Punakaiki along the World famous Coast road (rated one of the top 10 Coastal drives in the World!). Home to the Pancake Rocks, where the sea, wind and massive geological change have shaped the landscape creating fascinating stacked limestone rocks that the sea has eroded creating blowholes. Later we’ll head to Paparoa National Park Visitor Centre and meet with a ranger to learn about the local marine reserves and conservation projects.

DAY 5: PUNAKAIKI - FRANZ JOSEF

Travel to Franz Josef today with stops en route at the three epic locations to include: West Coast Tree Top Walk, the National Kiwi Centre and finish with a guided Alpine Fault Tour.

DAY 6: FRANZ JOSEF

Today we start off with a Guided Glacier Valley Walk followed by an eco-boat tour to Okarito - NZ’s largest unmodified wetlands! This evening we’ll visit a special spot to see Glowworms.

DAY 7: FRANZ JOSEF - WANAKA

Our journey today will be long but truly stunning. From spectacular glaciers, coastal scrub and ancient rain forests to alpine tussock and huge lakes, this showcases the best of South Island scenery in one go. We’ll make stops along the way at Haast Pass, Blue Pools and Makarora before arriving into Wanaka this afternoon.

DAY 8: WANAKA - QUEENSTOWN

This morning we join Eco Wanaka Adventures on a visit to Mou Waho Island. This nature reserve island is a very special place with endangered plants and animal species. We will also participate in tree planting to help regenerate and restore the land.  This afternoon travel to Queenstown with a stop at historic Arrowtown for a guided educational tour.

DAY 9: QUEENSTOWN - SYDNEY

Enjoy a walking tour of town followed by some free time. Transfer to the airport this afternoon for your flight home.
