Offer your students an exciting educational tour of the North Island of New Zealand. Take in the breathtaking scenery and varied topography of this truly unique and diverse environment.

The tour will take you from Auckland to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua. Your students will travel through key geographical locations, such as Mt Ruapehu, where your students will learn about the extreme earth events and volcanic and geothermal activity of the North Island.

DAY ONE

Arrive into Auckland, have an orientation tour of the city including a walk up Mount Eden, one of Auckland’s inactive volcanoes.

DAY TWO

Catch a ferry to the volcanic island of Rangitoto for a guided tour. Then in the afternoon, you will visit the Sky Tower for 360 views of Auckland.

DAY THREE

Travel to Rotorua where you will explore the geothermal wonderlands. In the evening, you will have a traditional Māori hāngi dinner and learn about the history of the local Māori people.

DAY FOUR

Visit the Waimangu Volcanic Valley, the world's youngest geothermal valley. After a morning of exploration, head down to Lake Taupō to soak in some natural hot pools and enjoy a view of the lake.

DAY FIVE

Visit the Te Wairoa Buried Village where you will visit the Museum of Te Wairoa where records of the Tarawera eruption are displayed. Have some time this afternoon to enjoy Lake Taupō.

DAY SIX

Travel from Taupō to Tongariro National Park. On the way, stop to visit the Turangi Visitor Centre to see the volcanic exhibit and quake simulations. Upon arrival at the national park you will enjoy a visit to the Whakapapa Visitor Center.

DAY SEVEN

A free day in the Tongariro National Park to explore and do some local walks. Take on the the challenging Tongariro Alpine Crossing or enjoy some easy, shorter walks around the area.

DAY EIGHT

Travel from Tongariro to Wellington this morning. Visit the Wellington Region Emergency Management Office. Then take a walking tour of Wellington to see the fault line and uplift, visible through the city.

DAY NINE

Have a morning guided tour of Te Papa, New Zealand’s National Museum before departing for home from Wellington.
