New Zealand is home to one of the world's biggest blockbuster franchises, The Lord of the Rings. This tour is the perfect mix of awe inspiring filming locations and informative studio tours.  A true 'behind the scenes' perspective of the movies, with time for the students to work on their own filming projects throughout.

From Fangorn Forest and Isengard in the far South of the country, through Rivendell, and up to Hobbiton in the centre of the North Island. This tour enables students to immerse themselves in true Middle Earth, and enjoy some of the many exciting activities and local culture on offer whilst there!

DAY ONE

On your first day you will arrive into Christchurch and have an orientation of the city with your guide.

DAY TWO

Spend the day taking in awesome views along the road through the Southern Alps. With stops enroute and a chance to take in the breathtaking Mount John at Lake Tekapo, you will have time to stretch your legs and enjoy the impressive mountain terrain!

DAY THREE

This morning you will get to explore the town of Twizel and its many filming locations. On a guided tour you will learn more about finding filming locations, setting up stunts, visual effects, and recruiting extras for large armies! You will then head to Queenstown.

DAY FOUR

Venture over to Glenorchy and explore the area that served as Isengard in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. In the afternoon take a return ride on the Skyline Gondola for breathtaking views over Lake Wakatipu.

DAY FIVE

Visit Kawarau River which served as the River Anduin in the movies. See where the Pillars of Argonath sat marking Gondor’s border. There will be time in the day to explore the historical Arrowtown too.

DAY SIX

Travel to Te Anau and continue onto Kepler Mire, the location used to depict Dead Marshes – The ancient battlefield outside of Mordor.

DAY SEVEN

Explore the real Fangorn Forest, where remote cameras were strung from high wires to film Aragorn moving through the trees. Returning to Queenstown you will have some free time to explore the town before trying out the famously delicious Fergburger.

DAY EIGHT

Take a morning flight to Auckland airport to continue on your journey. Today you get to experience the real Middle Earth on a guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set. Later in the evening enjoy an immersive Maori cultural show and an authentic Hangi dinner.

DAY NINE

Spend the day choosing from Rotorua's many activities from mountain biking, to learning about the geothermal landscapes, to soaking in naturally heated pools, or swinging across a canopy in the forest. Today you will have time to work on your projects or footage too and will transfer to Taupō in the evening.

DAY TEN

Travelling to Tongariro National Park you will see the beautiful Mount Ngauruhoe, which was digitally transformed to create Mount Doom. On the way back to Taupō you will stop at the the mighty Huka Falls.

DAY ELEVEN

Be treated to incredible views of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe on our journey south to the capital city of Wellington today.

DAY TWELVE

Marvel at the huge range of original movie merchandise in the Weta Cave and see the masters at work on a tour of the Weta Workshop. This afternoon explore Te Papa, an internationally acclaimed cultural museum with a wealth of interactive exhibitions and displays.

DAY THIRTEEN

Today visit the eerie Putangirua Pinnacles, which depicted Dimholt Road in the movies, where Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli sought the Paths of the Dead.

DAY FOURTEEN - DAY SIXTEEN

Spend 3 days at the Massey University campus, working on your illustrations of the locations visited over the last 13 days in NZ.

DAY SEVENTEEN

Say goodbye to New Zealand and head home with lifelong memories.
